we’ll be closed for the 24th, 25th and 26th - and will reopen on tuesday the 27th at 5pm. on new year’s eve we’ll be closed until 10pm when we’ll be having a small limited-availability ticketed party. for inquiries, please drop us a line at info@416snackbar.com. we’ll be closed on new year’s day, and will reopen with regular hours for the next few hundred days on monday the 2nd of january, 2012. a few new things on the menu this week:

sushi side salad

this is sort of a play on the little bento box precursor everyone knows of: hearts of romaine, shredded kale tossed in miso dressing, crispy shallots, red radish, wasabi pea dust, and a little more dressing for good measure. fresh and a little bit spicy, so a great compliment to some of our richer offerings.

KFC (korean fried chicken)

our play on a bloor and christie classic (bigup to ajuker fried chicken), just made a little easier to eat with your hands. double fried, tossed in sweet korean bbq sauce (mainly chili paste, ginger, honey, garlic) and topped with sesame and green onions.

farinata tre-colore

this one requires a bit of explanation. farinata di ceci is an italian chickpea flour pancake from an area called liguria. what we’ve done here is make a little grilled cheese sandwich out of it employing romesco sauce (toasted almonds and roasted peppers), super soft local mozzarella di bufala, and basil pesto. we love the name, but don’t be surprised to see this one titled ‘eyetalian grilled cheese’ in the near future – we’ve been finding the name is a little daunting to some.

homer-esque drool noise

we couldn’t keep the thing as a permanent menu item forever folks. and while it seems to contradict conventional wisdom to take one of our most popular items off the permanent menu, we have our reasons:

1. our beloved and extremely hard-working cooks had learned to hate them.

2. absence makes the heart grow fonder.

3. we gotta keep the menu changing – so many snacks to develop/devour.

anyway, we offer it to you on sunday evenings as our special thing.
